Police in Akwa Ibom State have apprehended a 13-year-old student for allegedly brandishing a pistol and threatening his classmates.

The young suspect is enrolled at Saint Paul’s Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, a community within Eket Local Government Area.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday.

Mr. Azare stated that Akwa Ibom Police Command officers responded to a tip-off around 8 a.m. on January 30, alerting them that the boy was spotted with a pistol on school grounds, threatening his classmates.

“The operatives of the command immediately swung into action and arrested the suspect and recovered a locally made pistol.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he has been with the said gun since November 2024 and that he got it from a ward(robe) in his father’s bedroom,” he said.

The police commissioner said the father of the suspect had been arrested over the incident.

He said the police have begun investigations into the matter.
