AAU Governing Council Begins Work With Community Tour
By Benjamin Abioye

The newly appointed Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, AAU Ekpoma, has wasted no time in getting to work.
Led by High Chief Dan Osi Orbih, the AAU governing council members embarked on a familiarization tour of the university and its surrounding community within 24 hours of their inauguration.
This visit took place before their first official meeting.
As part of their tour, the governing council members, along with the AAU management team, paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma. During the visit, Chief Orbih informed the traditional ruler that the state governor had placed trust in them to improve the university’s administration using their collective expertise.

“We are aware of the significant challenges facing the institution and seek your prayers, support, and that of the host community,” Chief Orbih stated.
The Onojie of Ekpoma, HRH Bar. Anthony Abumere II, expressed his appreciation for the visit. He offered prayers for the success of the new council and assured them of the palace’s full support in their mission.

In a series of meetings with university stakeholders, Chief Orbih emphasized the council’s commitment to working closely with staff unions and student representatives. He reassured them that their concerns would not be ignored.
“We are here because of you, and we are committed to working for and with you. Although we are aware of the challenges, we request your patience and understanding as we address them. To better grasp the issues, we kindly ask you to prepare and submit position papers,” he said.
He further stressed the need for patience, acknowledging that resolving the university’s problems would take time.
“Time and patience are necessary to tackle the university’s challenges. On behalf of my colleagues, I urge you to be patient as we work in everyone’s best interest.”

During discussions with union leaders from ASUU, CONUA, JAC, SANNU, NASU, and the Student Union Government (SUG), the need for urgent action on issues like minimum wage, staff welfare, and other pressing matters were raised. The governing council assured the AAU stakeholders that their concerns would be carefully reviewed as part of their efforts to improve conditions at the university.
