Afenifere Evolving, Not Dead, Spokesman Replies Akande
By Benjamin Abioye

Afenifere spokesperson, Prince Justice Faloye, has strongly rebuffed Chief Bisi Akande’s claim that the group is dead.
The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Prince Justice Faloye, has firmly stated that the group can never die. He explained that Afenifere is not confined to human life cycles but is a powerful ideology that will continue to evolve.
Faloye’s remarks came in response to a recent statement by Chief Bisi Akande, who suggested that Afenifere ceased to exist with the death of Bola Ige, the late former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, who founded the group.
Faloye disagreed, emphasizing that Afenifere is adapting to the changes of each generation. He clarified that while the group has been evolving over time, its core values of justice and egalitarianism remain strong and relevant. “Afenifere is not a human being with limited lifecycles, but a universal philosophical essence,” he said. “It must undergo rebirth to address current generational issues.”
He also discussed Afenifere’s historical journey, mentioning how the group transformed during Nigeria’s military rule. Once the country returned to democracy, Afenifere played a major role in the formation of political parties like the Unity Party of Nigeria in 1979 and the Alliance for Democracy and Social Democratic Party in the 1990s.
Faloye criticized certain individuals, including President Bola Tinubu, accusing them of pretending to align with Afenifere for political power. He claimed that these individuals, once in power, deviated from the group’s core values. “Unfortunately, some of the new entrants like Tinubu never shared the Afenifere ideology but joined the ranks in their quest for power,” Faloye said. “Upon getting to power in 1999, these pseudo-Afenifere began to show their true character.”
The Afenifere leader emphasized that while some have strayed, the group is still grounded in its principles. “Afenifere remains committed to the ideals of its founding fathers,” he said, highlighting that young people are joining the movement, and the group continues to evolve. He pointed out that although some figures like Tinubu have broken ranks with Afenifere, the group is still in the hands of those who are committed to social democratic values.
“Afenifere is currently evolving and being purified to take control of our manifest destiny,” Faloye added. He concluded by stressing that Afenifere cannot die, as it continues to grow and adapt across generations. He affirmed that the group’s ideals are still alive with the guidance of experienced leaders like Prof. Onigbinde and Shonibare, who were mentored by the founding figures of Afenifere such as Awolowo and Ige.
