The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has officially announced the next phase of its innovative Contactless Passport Application system, following its successful launch in Canada on November 5, 2024.

The NIS Contactless Passport system, designed to streamline passport renewal processes, will now be available to Nigerians in the Diaspora, beginning with Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

According to a post by the NIS on X, the next roll-out date for these regions is set for February 7, 2025.

The new system, which can be accessed via the NIS mobile app on the Google Play Store, allows Nigerians to renew their passports without the need to visit any Passport Centre for biometric enrollment.

In a statement, the NIS expressed its commitment to enhancing service delivery through innovation and efficiency, emphasizing that this digital shift aims to improve the passport application experience for Nigerians worldwide.

The Contactless Passport Application system is part of the NIS’s broader strategy to simplify and modernize its services. This move is expected to save time and reduce the need for in-person visits, providing a more convenient option for Nigerians abroad who wish to renew their passports remotely.

ACI AS Akinlabi, the Service Public Relations Officer, assured the public that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains dedicated to delivering efficient services to Nigerians wherever they are located.

This move aligns with the NIS’s goal of improving global accessibility and ensuring a smoother, more efficient experience for Nigerians in the Diaspora.

The service’s continued expansion of the contactless system is expected to enhance the passport renewal process for Nigerian citizens worldwide, offering greater ease and flexibility.
