How Nigerian Man Was Sentenced To Prison Over Pair Of Slippers (Video)

A Nigerian man has taken to social media to recount how he was arrested and sentenced to one year in prison over a pair of slippers, a revelation that has sent social media on frenzy.

In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the man narrated his ordeal, revealing how an innocent night out turned into a nightmare on January 6, 2024.

According to him, after closing from work, a friend invited him to a birthday party. On their way back, his tricycle ran out of fuel, prompting them to stop at a nearby house where a woman sold fuel.

Unbeknownst to him, his friend’s slippers had torn. Instead of informing him, the friend took a pair of slippers left outside, belonging to the woman’s son, and began walking away with them.

The woman immediately noticed and raised an alarm, accusing them of theft. Despite his attempts to explain and apologize, her husband called the police, leading to their arrest.

“We spent three days in police custody, thinking it was a minor issue,” he recalled. “Before we knew it, we were sentenced to one year in prison.”

The video, which contains more details of his harrowing experience, has sparked outrage online, with many questioning the severity of the punishment.
