AfDB President, Adesina Credits Wife For His Success (Video)

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has opened up about his journey from humble beginnings, emphasizing the crucial role his wife played in shaping his success.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, February 10, 2025, the former Minister of Agriculture shared how he was not born into wealth but worked his way up with resilience and the unwavering support of his wife.

Recalling their first meeting during their university days in a school cafeteria, Adesina described his wife as his best friend and the best decision of his life.

My wife is my best friend, she’s my counselor. She is my prayer partner. She is my strength. She is several time sharper than me”– Dr Adesina said.

The AfDB President revealed that during his toughest moments, she put her career on hold to support him.

“She put her career on hold all throughout these years just listening to me, supporting me. So, whatever I am today is a joint work of her’s.—Adesina said with boldness.

Beyond emotional support, Adesina credited his wife for being instrumental in his professional journey, noting that she meticulously proofread his memos while he was a minister. Thanks to her keen eye, he proudly stated that none of his official memos were ever rejected.

The interview clip, uploaded on Arise TV’s official YouTube page, has since gone viral, sparking widespread admiration. Many netizens applauded Adesina’s wife for her dedication, with some questioning whether such selfless partners still exist in today’s world.

Reacting to the interview, renowned journalist Rufai Oseni, who anchored the program, expressed admiration for the couple’s love story. During The Morning Show on Tuesday, February 11, Oseni humorously remarked that Adesina’s wife embodied the kind of partner he had been searching for.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina was first elected as President of AfDB on May 28, 2015, and was unanimously re-elected for a second five-year term on August 27, 2020.
