Why Sanwo-Olu Scrapped Work-From-Home Policy

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially scrapped the work-from-home policy for public servants, directing full on-site resumption across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) from April 1, 2025.
The work-from-home policy, introduced in February 2024, allowed Lagos civil servants from levels one to 14 to work remotely for two days per week, reducing their physical presence in the office to just three days.
However, in a statement on Tuesday, the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, announced the governor’s decision to discontinue the initiative, citing the implementation of the new minimum wage and other improved welfare measures for state workers.
“Following the implementation of the new minimum wage and other commendable measures introduced by this administration to enhance workers’ welfare, Mr. Governor has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative in the Lagos State Public Service,” the statement read.
Agoro urged all public servants to rededicate themselves to their responsibilities and ensure efficient service delivery across all government agencies.
“Accounting Officers are to take note and ensure that this directive is given wide publicity across the state’s public service,” he added.
The scrapping of the policy marks a shift back to full-time in-person work for Lagos State’s civil servants, following the government’s commitment to enhancing productivity and public service efficiency.
