2027: Adesina Gives New Clarification
By Benjamin Abioye

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, has denied any interest in running for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
His statement comes after reports claimed that he hinted at joining the race during a recent interview.
In a message posted on his social media, Adesina, who previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, clarified that his words had been taken out of context.
“A segment of my recent interview has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets,” he stated.
He further explained, “What I said was, ‘I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country.’”
Adesina urged people to listen to the full interview, which is available online, to understand the true context of his remarks. He emphasized, “For clarity and for the record, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria.”
During the interview, Adesina reaffirmed his commitment to serving Nigeria in any way possible. He expressed his passion for improving lives and shared his deep sense of patriotism, which once led him to reject an offer of U.S. citizenship.
“Look, the only thing that makes me happy is seeing people’s lives transform and change. That’s what gives me satisfaction. So, I will be available to serve in any capacity—globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country, Nigeria,” he said.
