Human rights activist Serah Ibrahim has weighed in on the expulsion of Precious Mbakwe, the UNIZIK student who was caught on video physically assaulting a male lecturer.

Following an investigation, the management of UNIZIK announced her expulsion on Friday, a decision that has sparked mixed reactions. While many supported the disciplinary action, Ibrahim raised concerns about whether the lecturer involved faced any consequences.

She noted that the university acted swiftly in punishing the student but questioned if any action was taken against the lecturer. The activist also highlighted that Mbakwe had accused the lecturer of inappropriate conduct, including touching her breast region, and wondered if the university had thoroughly addressed the claim.

Taking to social media, Ibrahim wrote:
“The UNIZIK student has been expelled, and I would say, fortunately or unfortunately, it was really quick. If I may ask, was there any punishment for the lecturer? I’m sure a lot of people will learn from this.”

Her remarks have stirred further reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the fairness of the university’s decision and whether both parties should have been held accountable.
