Adeleke Orders Security Takeover Of Osun LG Secretariats

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered security agencies to take full control of all local government secretariats in the state following reports of a failed attempt by sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors to forcefully reclaim office.

In a statement posted on his official X handle, Adeleke also directed all residents, including politicians, to stay away from the secretariats to prevent further bloodshed and protect public property. His directive follows the decision of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to withdraw their services, effectively leaving the council offices locked.

The governor expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the violent clashes allegedly triggered by the APC’s illegal takeover attempt. He revealed that five members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were killed in different parts of the state, with two from Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government, two in Ola-Oluwa Local Government, and one in Ikire. Several others sustained injuries during the unrest.

“I have directed security agencies to take charge of all local government secretariats, and I assure residents of Osun of their safety and the protection of lives and properties,” Adeleke stated.

The development has further heightened political tensions in Osun State, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the violent confrontations.
