From Gov Abiodun To Olamide: How Portable Is Biting The Fingers That Fed Him

Nigerian street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has built a reputation for openly calling out individuals and institutions, including those who have supported his career.

His recent legal battles with the Ogun State government and his ongoing accusations against rapper Olamide have raised questions about whether his troubles are the consequences of his confrontational approach.

Clash with the Ogun State Government
Portable’s conflict with the Ogun State government began in July 2024 when he publicly criticized Governor Dapo Abiodun over poor road conditions in Sango-Ota. He shared videos online showing his vehicle stuck on a bad road, accusing the government of neglecting infrastructure. Shortly after, he claimed that the governor responded by sending him ₦2 million and promising to fix the roads.

However, his troubles escalated in early 2025 when he was accused of leading an attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The officials were carrying out an enforcement exercise in Ota when Portable and his associates allegedly assaulted them, causing injuries. While nine of his alleged accomplices were arrested, Portable managed to evade capture, prompting the Ogun State Police Command to declare him wanted. The police obtained a court order for his arrest on charges of conspiracy, illegal possession of arms, and attempted murder.

In response, Portable released a video from hiding, denying the allegations and pleading for the release of his detained associates. He also claimed that the government had sealed his properties, including an unfinished building and a hotel in Sango-Ota, and arrested over 20 of his workers.

Accusations Against Olamide and Industry Figures
Portable’s biggest breakthrough came in 2021 when Olamide collaborated with him on the hit song “Zazu.” However, in February 2025, he accused Olamide of “snatching” his producer, dancer, and promoter instead of signing him to YBNL Nation. He expressed disappointment that despite receiving just a verse from Olamide, he remains more grateful than artists like Asake, whom Olamide signed and helped rise to fame.

While Olamide has not responded to Portable’s claims, many believe that Portable’s repeated habit of calling out those who have helped him may have cost him further opportunities in the industry. Olamide, known for supporting upcoming artists, has remained silent, perhaps signaling that he prefers to avoid unnecessary drama.

Mental Health and Spiritual Attack Claims
Amid his legal troubles, Portable recently released a video from a psychiatric hospital, claiming that he is mentally unstable and suffering from a spiritual attack. In the video, he pleaded for public understanding and stated that he was undergoing treatment. Some observers believe this could be a strategy to gain sympathy in light of his legal troubles, while others argue that it reflects the psychological toll of his continuous controversies.

The Consequences of His Actions
Portable’s habit of publicly confronting influential figures and government authorities appears to have backfired, leading to serious personal and professional setbacks. His dispute with the Ogun State government has escalated to the point of legal action, property seizures, and an arrest warrant. His accusations against Olamide and others in the industry may have also distanced him from potential allies who could have helped him grow his career.

As the drama unfolds, Portable’s case serves as a cautionary tale about the risks of burning bridges in both the entertainment industry and society.
