Billionaire Kidnapper, Evans Offers To Surrender Property In Plea Bargain
By Benjamin Abioye

Kidnap kingpin Evans has told the court he is ready to surrender all his property, including 14 trucks, in a plea bargain, hoping for compassion and a reduced sentence.
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has told the court that he is ready to give up all his property as part of a plea bargain. He pleaded with the court to consider his request on compassionate grounds.
During a court session at the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Evans promised to hand over 14 brand-new trucks to the Lagos State Government. He suggested that the government could sell the trucks and use the money to compensate the victims of his crimes.
His co-accused, Joseph Emeka, Victor Aduba, and Linus Opara, are also discussing plea deals with the Lagos State Government. The four men are facing charges of conspiracy, kidnapping, and attempted murder.
This case was previously on hold but was restarted in January 2023 when Justice Sherifat Sonaike took over after the retirement of Justice Adedayo Akintoye.
During the hearing, the prosecutor, Alaba Kuku, informed the court that the defendants had shown interest in plea bargains. He confirmed that Evans’ lawyer, Emefo Etudo, had already sent an early copy of the application to the state government for review.
Lawyers for the other defendants—Emeka Azubuike (2nd defendant), Chinyere Udeh (3rd defendant), and Emmanuel Ochai (4th defendant)—also confirmed that their clients were interested in negotiating plea deals. However, the third defendant’s lawyer said he had not yet submitted his application to the state Attorney General.
Evans also stated that he was willing to give up all his other assets if the court granted his plea on compassionate grounds. This is not the first time he has requested a plea bargain. He previously tried to secure one before Justice Ibironke Coker at the Ikeja High Court.
Currently, Evans is facing five different criminal cases in various high courts across Lagos State. He has already been convicted in two of them, receiving a life sentence in one and 14 years in prison in another.
In his plea application, Evans, represented by his lawyer, Emefo Etudo, told the court that he had changed while being held at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison.
He also claimed that the Federal Government had forgiven him for his past crimes and had even given him a scholarship while he was in prison.
