Concacaf Referee Messi Jersey

Concacaf has disciplined referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava after he approached Lionel Messi to request a jersey following a Champions Cup match.

Concacaf has taken disciplinary action against referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava following an incident involving Argentine football star Lionel Messi.

After Inter Miami’s Champions Cup win over Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night, Nava was spotted approaching Messi and appeared to ask for his jersey. This act was considered unusual, as referees are expected to maintain professionalism and avoid such interactions with players after matches.

Later, Nava explained that he was requesting an autograph for a relative with special needs. However, his reasoning did not change the fact that his actions violated Concacaf’s Code of Conduct for match officials.

Concacaf released a statement regarding the issue, saying, “The referee’s conduct does not align with the Confederation’s Code of Conduct for match officials and undermines the existing processes for these types of requests.”

Nava has admitted his mistake and issued a public apology. He has also accepted the disciplinary measures imposed on him, although Concacaf has not yet revealed the exact punishment.

In the match, Inter Miami secured a 1-0 victory, with Messi scoring the only goal in the second half, further proving his influence on the team.
