Suspected kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old woman, Talatu Ali, from the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State.

According to reports by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the kidnappers invaded the hospital on February 19, 2025, when the woman was at the hospital awaiting medical consultation.

Talatu had been brought to the facility by her son, Nasiru Aliyu, and her cousin, Aliyu Garba, both from Yar Gaya Village in Dawakin Kudu LGA. However, while waiting in line for her appointment, her relatives suddenly realized she had disappeared.

After a frantic search within the hospital yielded no results, the family reported the case to the Dawanau Divisional Police Headquarters.

The situation took a chilling turn on February 21, when Aliyu received a call from an unknown number, confirming that the abductors were holding his mother.

Authorities suspect that the kidnappers deliberately targeted the hospital, taking advantage of its security vulnerabilities to carry out the abduction.
GWG.ng reports that Nigerian news media have reportedly published stories of kidnappers targeting soft targets with the inclusion of hospitals set to worsen the fears of many citizens.

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with investigations ongoing to rescue the victim and apprehend those responsible.
