Telecom Services To Be Cut Off In Lagos, Ogun – Operators
By Gideon Ayeni

The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has raised alarm over a looming disruption of network —mobile and internet services in Lagos and Ogun States due to a diesel shortage caused by the ongoing strike by Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
ATCON President, Tony Emoekpere, disclosed that the strike—triggered by allegations of police harassment of tanker drivers in Lagos—has halted fuel distribution, leaving telecom base stations running critically low on diesel. With no immediate solution in sight, millions of users risk experiencing network outages, which could disrupt businesses, emergency services, and daily communication.
To avert a potential telecom blackout, ATCON is calling on the governors of Lagos and Ogun States to intervene and ensure that diesel supply reaches telecom operators. The association also urged security agencies and petroleum unions to swiftly resolve the crisis to safeguard the nation’s connectivity and economic stability.
In another development, GWG.ng reports that the children of the late Chief MKO Abiola have reacted to former military leader General Ibrahim Babangida’s admission that their father won the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
In his newly released autobiography, A Journey in Service, Babangida acknowledged Abiola as the rightful winner of the election but expressed deep regret over his decision to annul it.
Reacting to Babangida’s revelation, Abdulmumuni Abiola, one of MKO’s sons, stated that he was not surprised by the former military ruler’s admission. According to him, Nigerians had always known the truth.
