Man’s Friendly Encounter With Police Sparks Reactions (Video)
By Benjamin Abioye

A Nigerian man has surprised many by sharing a positive experience with police officers, a stark contrast to the often-reported cases of police brutality.
Taking to social media, he shared a video detailing his journey from the Island to Badagry, where he was stopped by over ten officers at different checkpoints. However, rather than encountering hostility or extortion, he described the officers as courteous and professional.
“I had such a nice time with my lovely police officers today, from the island to Badagry. Police wey stop me reach 10. Shuuu,” he wrote.
In the video, the officers were seen engaging him in a friendly manner. One officer asked for his papers and driver’s license in a respectful tone, while another playfully remarked that they looked alike.
The video quickly gained attention, drawing a mix of amusement, skepticism, and debate among Nigerians in the comment section. Some praised the man for recording his interaction, while others pointed out that officers tend to behave differently when they know they are being filmed.
@dammiedammie35 reacted positively, saying, “I love this thread!”
However, @realsultanoa had a different take, warning the driver about legal implications: “Denying the officer access to information on ID different from yours in your car is an offense. Don’t even try to argue next time.”
Another user, @SavvyRinu, expressed disappointment, stating, “To think this is happening in a country people are supposed to be citizens in. This is not living.”
Others debated whether the police officers’ request to see another person’s ID in the car was valid. @MisterNMC argued, “Police is bad, but the point of seeing the other driver’s license is valid. It could be a stolen car or anything.”
Some found humor in the situation, with @Sikowitz17 laughing at the officer’s joke: “Shamelessness. Say na I resemble you .”
While police interactions in Nigeria are often met with apprehension, this man’s story offers a different perspective. It also highlights the ongoing conversation about law enforcement conduct, citizens’ rights, and the importance of recording interactions for accountability.
Would experiences like this become more common, or was this just an exception? The debate continues.
