Vito Perillo, the oldest mayor in the United States (U.S) has passed away at the age of 100. He died on Saturday night while serving his second term as the Mayor of Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
Born in 1924, Perillo— Oldest U.S Mayor had a distinguished career that spanned military service and civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II alongside his brother before working as a civil engineer until retirement.
Despite his age, Perillo made history in 2017 when he was elected mayor at 93, proving that determination knows no bounds. His campaign was driven by remarkable energy, as he personally distributed thousands of flyers and walked extensively to engage with residents.
Perillo’s leadership earned him a second term, and even at 100, he remained dedicated to serving his community. However, in September 2024, as he marked his centennial birthday, he announced that he would not seek re-election.
His passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, dedication, and a never-ending pursuit of public service.

A viral video circulating on social media captures the moment a group of people, believed to be from an African country, gathered on the bridge for the inauguration.
