Grammy Winner Roberta Flack Passes Away Peacefully

Roberta Flack, the legendary Grammy-winning singer known for her soulful voice and unique musical style, has passed away at the age of 88.

Roberta Flack’s publicist confirmed the news, stating that she died peacefully while surrounded by her family. “She died peacefully surrounded by her family,” the statement read. However, the cause of her death was not disclosed. Flack had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, since 2022.

Flack’s career spanned over five decades, and she played a major role in shaping the “quiet storm” radio format, which helped popularize R&B music. Her timeless songs, including Killing Me Softly With His Song and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, earned her multiple Grammy Awards.

Beyond music, Roberta Flack was deeply involved in social movements of the mid-20th century. She was friends with influential figures like Reverend Jesse Jackson and activist Angela Davis. She also performed at the funeral of baseball legend Jackie Robinson.

Born on February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Roberta Flack showed musical talent from an early age. She received a music scholarship to Howard University at just 15 years old. At 32, she signed with Atlantic Records, launching her successful recording career.

Flack’s music and legacy continue to inspire generations, and her contributions to the industry will never be forgotten.
