Lagos Assembly: Obasa Makes New Declarations (Video)
By Gideon Ayeni

Amid the ongoing crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, which has sparked widespread reactions on social media, the embattled former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has publicly denied being impeached.
Obasa, who reportedly arrived the Lagos House of Assembly complex which is presently on an indefinite adjournment was seen responding to questions from journalists in a viral video and proclaiming himself as speaker.
When asked about his impeachment as speaker last January by some Nigeriran news reporters, Obasa categorically refuted the claims, stating, “I remain the Speaker of the House. I have not been impeached or removed.”
When confronted about how he gained access to the Assembly complex, he responded, “Are you saying I broke the door to get access? Is that what you’re saying?”
Asked whether he had been reinstated as speaker, Obasa doubled down on his position, saying, “I’ve never been removed. There’s nothing like impeachment. If you must remove or impeach anybody, you must follow due process.”
Regarding reports of a court case involving him, Obasa claimed he was unaware of any legal proceedings.
He also downplayed concerns about the impact of the ongoing Assembly crisis on the ruling party, stating, “Our party is one. We are all brothers and sisters. It’s a family party.”

Recall that Obasa was impeached while he was outside the country, with Mojisola Meranda appointed as the new Speaker. Earlier today, reports also emerged that security details assigned to Meranda were withdrawn.
