Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has spoken out for the first time after being acquitted of any involvement in the death of his former signee, Mohbad.

The controversial artiste, Naira Marley who had been at the center of public scrutiny since Mohbad’s passing on September 12, 2023, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on February 26, 2025, to express his pain and frustration over the accusations.

In his emotional post, Naira Marley described how he felt betrayed by those who once stood by him, accusing them of staying silent while he was vilified. “I never thought silence could be so loud. I never thought someone I called my brother, someone I protected, would leave this world with my name in his shadow,” he wrote.

The singer lamented that despite making peace with Mohbad before his death, he was forced to carry the weight of accusations that, according to him, were unjust. “Mistakes were made, but they were business—never war. I made peace with Mohbad. We understood each other beyond the noise, beyond the misunderstandings. And you know this,” he stated.

Naira Marley also criticized those he claimed knew the truth but remained silent, allowing the public to paint him as a villain. “Yet when he took his last breath in your arms, you looked at the world and pointed at me. You let them tear me apart. You let them call me a killer while you sat there, knowing the truth. Now you tell the story?” he questioned.

The Marlian Music boss reflected on his ordeal, detailing how he endured imprisonment and legal battles while others allegedly changed their narratives. “You never thought I would survive. You never thought I would walk through the fire and face my people. Maybe you hoped I would stay a fugitive. You thought I would run. Instead, I stood before the justice system, spent time in jail, and faced everything head-on while you changed the story, again and again.”

Despite the emotional toll of the accusations, Naira Marley maintained that the truth would eventually prevail. “But God sees all. The truth does not shake. The lies will fade, and time will reveal everything. I have been broken, but I am not destroyed. And when the truth finally speaks, I pray your heart is strong enough to bear it,” he concluded.

His statement has since sent the social media abuzz, with supporters expressing relief at his acquittal, while others continue to demand further clarifications regarding Mohbad’s death. Meanwhile, the court has ruled that the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and his friend, Ayobami Sadiq, will face prosecution for negligence.

The case surrounding Mohbad’s death remains one of the most controversial in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with many in ghe still divided over the true circumstances leading to the singer’s tragic passing.
