The Supreme Court has issued a decisive ruling, ordering the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt the disbursement of funds to the Rivers State government until a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place.

In a landmark judgment, the apex court also directed Martin Amaewhule to immediately resume sitting alongside all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The ruling comes amid the ongoing political crisis in the state, where legislative activities have been at a standstill due to internal conflicts. The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to significantly impact governance in Rivers, as it reinforces the necessity of a functional Assembly for financial appropriations and state administration.

With this development, all eyes are now on the Rivers State government and the affected lawmakers to comply with the court’s directive.
