Mourinho Banned, Fined €40,000 By Turkish FA
By Benjamin Abioye

Fenerbahçe manager, José Mourinho, has been handed a four-match suspension and fined over €40,000 by the Turkish Football Federation.
The punishment was issued due to Mourinho’s controversial remarks after the recent Istanbul derby against Galatasaray, which ended in a goalless draw.
During his post-match comments, Mourinho described the Galatasaray bench’s reactions in a tense moment as them “jumping like monkeys,” a statement deemed offensive.
He also questioned the officiating, suggesting that the match could have been even more problematic if a Turkish referee had been in charge instead of Slovenian official Slavko Vinčić.
Following his remarks, Galatasaray condemned his statement as racially insensitive and hinted at possible legal action. In response, Fenerbahçe defended Mourinho, arguing that his words were misinterpreted.
On February 27, the Turkish Football Federation’s disciplinary council ruled that Mourinho’s comments violated sporting ethics. He received a two-match ban for his remarks about the fourth official and another two-match suspension for his comments toward the Galatasaray bench.
With Fenerbahçe currently six points behind Galatasaray in the league standings, this suspension adds more challenges to their pursuit of the title.
