Bridges can be seen as the ingenuity of the human race. With bridges, countries worldwide can now connect distant cities. Africa is also not far behind in this achievement as some countries in the continent have made giant strides in constructing long bridges. Here are the five longest bridges in Africa.

6th October bridge in Egypt

The 6th October Bridge in Egypt is  by far the longest in Africa. Estimated at 20.5 km, the construction of this bridge began in 1969 by the Egyptian company Arab Contractors.  It was estimated by experts in 2023 that about 500,000 people use the bridge daily.

Third Mainland bridge (Nigeria)

Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three road bridges crossing the Lagos Lagoon. It connects the commercial district to the mainland of Lagos. For this, the bridge spans 7.3 miles or 11.8 km, making it Africa’s second-longest bridge.

Suez canal bridge in Egypt

The bridge has a total length of 2.4 miles, crossing the Suez Canal, making it Africa’s third longest bridge. 

Dona bridge in Mozambique

Built by the Portuguese in 1934, it connected Malawi with the coal fields of Moatize and the port of Beira. With a total length of 2.3 miles, it is the second-longest bridge in the country.

El-Hachef bridge in Morocco

Constructing this 3.5 kilometer long bridge was significant for the  Morocco’s high-speed train project. The bridge  posed significant geological and engineering challenges.Daddy.”
