Assembly Gives Fubara 48-Hour Ultimatum On 2025 Budget

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding that he presents the 2025 budget before the lawmakers.
The directive to Fubara on the budget was given during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, intensifying the ongoing power struggle between the governor and the state legislature.
GWG.ng reports that this latest development comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling that nullified the local government elections conducted on October 5, 2023. The judgment has further deepened political tensions in the state, with Fubara announcing plans for fresh elections while directing Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to take over the councils temporarily.
The Assembly’s ultimatum signals a renewed clash between the governor and lawmakers, who have been at loggerheads over governance issues in the state. It remains unclear how Fubara will respond to the demand on the budget, especially as his government navigates the legal and political implications of the recent court ruling.
