Man Escapes After Murder Of Down-Syndrome Daughter Accused Of Being A Witch

A pastor in Calabar has allegedly killed his own daughter after accusing her of being a witch who could transform into a snake.
This disturbing incident came to public attention through a viral post on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post, shared by a user identified as @EduEle5, stated that the police had been informed, and the suspect is now on the run.
Authorities have launched a manhunt and are urging every Nigerian that hears news of him to help locate and arrest him.
The post read: “Apostle Ubong Bassey Etim murdered his 16-year-old daughter in Calabar after accusing her of being a witch who could transform into a snake. The young girl, who had Down syndrome, was brutally killed on February 15, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.”
Further details revealed that the suspect’s estranged wife had previously left their home due to his violent behavior. Despite her departure, she continued fighting for the safety of their children. Now, she is pleading with Nigerians to help ensure justice for her late daughter.
“The suspect’s estranged wife disclosed that the pastor had a history of domestic violence, which forced her to flee their home. Despite this, she continued fighting for her children’s safety. She is now calling on Nigerians to help ensure her daughter gets justice.”
The police in Cross River State have intensified efforts to track down the suspect.
“The police are currently tracking him in Calabar. The Cross River State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspect. The victim, a child with Down syndrome, had gone to use the toilet on her own when her father entered and killed her—his own flesh and blood.”
As the news spread, many social media users expressed their anger and called for justice for the innocent girl.
