Governor Oborevwori Bans Mining At Ugbolu Heights
By Benjamin Abioye

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially prohibited all mining activities at Ugbolu Heights in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
This decision was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, on Monday.
According to Aniagwu, illegal mining has been causing severe environmental damage in the area. He explained that despite the state government taking control of Ugbolu Heights, certain individuals have continued mining activities, which are altering the landscape and threatening the ecosystem.
“Some individuals have been actively involved in illegal mining, destroying Ugbolu Heights—an area designated for urban renewal and development within the capital territory,” Aniagwu stated.
He further emphasized that the actions of these miners have severely impacted the land, saying, “They are digging deep into the ground and ruining the topography of the area.”
To prevent further destruction, the commissioner warned that strict measures would be enforced against violators. “From now on, anyone found engaging in mining activities at Ugbolu Heights will be arrested. Their activities are harming the environment, and they have no government approval to operate, even though they are aware the area has been acquired for development purposes. Mining there is now strictly prohibited,” he declared.
This ban reflects the government’s commitment to environmental protection and urban development within the state.
