Oyo Govt Debunks Rumors Of Olubadan’s Death
By Gideon Ayeni

The Oyo State Government has refuted news reports claiming the death of the yet to be crowned Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
Speaking to PUNCH Online on Monday night, the state’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, dismissed the speculations on the death of the Olubadan, affirming that the monarch is alive and well.
“Yes, the Olubadan is alive, hale, and hearty. I spoke with one of his sons, Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, who represented the family at the coronation committee,” Olatunbosun stated in debunking news of the death of the Olubadan.
GWG.ng reports that the clarification comes amid growing concerns over the king’s well-being, as misinformation about his status spread on social media and Nigerian news platforms. However, the state government has urged the public to disregard the false reports and avoid spreading unverified news.

In another development, GWG.ng reports that the Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding that he presents the 2025 budget before the lawmakers.
The directive to Fubara on the budget was given during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, intensifying the ongoing power struggle between the governor and the state legislature.
GWG.ng reports that this latest development comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling that nullified the local government elections conducted on October 5, 2023. The judgment has further deepened political tensions in the state, with Fubara announcing plans for fresh elections while directing Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to take over the councils temporarily.
