Why We Won’t Probe Sexual Harassment Claims Against Akpabio – Senate
By Imman Onyero

The Senate will not probe the sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by his colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha (PDP, Kogi Central) the Senate spokesman has said.
Speaking on ARISE News TV on Monday, the Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), said that there was presently no petition before the Senate to necessitate a probe of Akpabio.
GWG.ng reports that the sexual harassment allegations levelled against Akpabio by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have rivetted Nigerians in the past weekend with the news media feasting on the allegation and denial.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan whose billionaire husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan had been reckoned as a close friend of Akpabio had accused him of seeking a romantic engagement with her when the Uduaghans visited with Akpabio in his home in Akwa Ibom State.
She had further accused Akpabio of stalling considerations of motions brought by her particularly one on the moribound Ajaokuta Steel Complex.
But asserting that the Senate will not probe the allegations against Akpabio, the Senate spokesman said: “The Senate does not conduct its affairs based on what is trending on social media. There must be a formal petition or a matter raised before the Senate before any investigation can take place.”
“There is presently no formal matter before the Senate regarding these allegations. The only issue before the Senate is Senator Natasha’s non-compliance with the standing orders.”
He equally dismissed her contention on the seating arrangement saying that Order 6 of the Senate rules mandates that the Senate President assigns seats to senators. Senator Adaramodu said,” all lawmakers are expected to speak from their designated seats, and any breach of this rule undermines order in the chamber.”
