Eto’o Wins Appeal To Contest CAF Election
By Benjamin Abioye

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) must allow Cameroonian football chief Samuel Eto’o to contest for a seat on its executive committee.
CAF had previously rejected Eto’o’s candidacy despite his position as the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) since 2021. However, the ruling now clears the way for him to participate in the upcoming elections.
The election is set to take place during CAF’s general assembly meeting next week. Eto’o, a former Barcelona star and a four-time African Player of the Year, had challenged CAF’s decision by taking the matter to sport’s highest court.
In its verdict, CAS stated, “It is ordered that the CAF Executive Committee includes Mr. Samuel Eto’o Fils in the list of candidates for election to the CAF Executive Committee by the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting on 12 March 2025.”
Sources in Cameroon suggest that Eto’o is aiming for a vice-presidential position within CAF as he continues to navigate tensions with the country’s sports ministry.
GWG.ng reports that Eto’o, a former Barcelona and Chelsea player is expected to add a verve to the executive committee should he win in the election.
