Again Nigeria Humiliate South Africa As Flamingos Win 3-1 In World Cup Qualifier
By Benjamin Abioye

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have secured a 3-1 win over South Africa, strengthening their chances of qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday by defeating South Africa’s Bantwana 3-1.
With this victory, the Flamingos have moved closer to securing a spot in the final round of the qualification series for this year’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.
The match took place at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Pretoria. Shakirat Moshood, who made a mark at last year’s Under-17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic by scoring four goals, opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Her goal gave Nigeria an early advantage and set the pace for the rest of the game.
Nigeria extended their lead when Harmony Chidi, who had scored 13 goals in the qualifiers leading to the last World Cup, confidently converted a penalty. She was fouled inside the box, giving Nigeria an opportunity to double their lead.
South Africa responded shortly after halftime. Just two minutes into the second half, Malebana successfully scored a penalty for Bantwana, reducing the deficit and adding intensity to the match. However, Nigeria quickly regained control. In the 68th minute, Harmony Chidi found the net again, scoring her second goal and restoring the Flamingos’ two-goal lead.
Both teams will meet again for the return leg at the Remo Stars’ Stadium in Ikenne-Remo next Saturday. The winner of this matchup will progress to the final qualification round.
At the end of this qualification phase, four teams will secure a spot in the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, joining the host nation, Morocco. The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 17 to November 5.
