The Adamawa State Police Command has successfully rescued two Catholic priests who were abducted by criminals in a coordinated operation targeting a notorious hideout in the state.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the rescue mission took place at a remote criminal enclave in Gwaida Malam village, a border area between Numan and Demsa Local Government Areas.

During the operation, police apprehended a 34-year-old suspect, Tahamado Jonathan Demian, who was allegedly responsible for the abduction of Reverend Father Abraham Samman of the Catholic Diocese of Yola and Reverend Father Matthew David Dusami of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo. Shockingly, Nguroje revealed that the suspect was a member of the same church as the kidnapped priests.

“The Command’s strategic operation ensured the safe rescue of the two Reverend Fathers without any ransom paid. Both victims are currently receiving medical attention,” the police spokesperson stated.

Security operatives also recovered a locally fabricated assault rifle, a mobile phone, and multiple SIM cards from the suspect. The authorities have taken him into custody for further investigation.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, expressed gratitude to the state government, security agencies, and members of the public for their support. He emphasized the need for continued cooperation to enhance rapid responses to security threats.

The rescue operation, launched on February 21, 2025, is part of ongoing efforts by the Adamawa State Police Command to combat criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.
