BREAKING: El-Rufai Dumps APC, Joins New Party
By Benjamin Abioye

Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai has resigned from APC, citing a loss of democratic values, and has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
His decision comes after what he described as serious disagreements with the ruling party’s leadership.
El-Rufai submitted his resignation letter to his ward in Kaduna State on Monday, expressing disappointment with the direction the APC had taken in recent years.
“I have diligently served the APC and made my contributions to its viability as a political platform,” he wrote. “However, developments in the last two years have confirmed a troubling disregard for democratic principles and progressive values that I hold dear.”
As a founding member of the APC, El-Rufai played a significant role in the party’s victories in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 elections. While reflecting on his time as governor, he emphasized his focus on human development, education, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, and investment.
Despite these contributions, he explained that he could no longer remain in the APC due to increasing concerns about governance and the internal workings of the party.
“At this point in my political journey, I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish,” he stated.
Announcing his move to the SDP, El-Rufai expressed appreciation to his mentors, colleagues, and supporters, assuring them of his continued dedication to democratic principles.
“As a member of the SDP, I am committed to fostering a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in upcoming elections,” he declared.
Encouraging others to join him, he called on Nigerians who share his vision for a better country to help build the SDP into a strong alternative. He stressed the importance of making Nigeria a source of pride for Africa and the Black Race.
El-Rufai ended his statement with a call for unity and progress, promising to focus his efforts on strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
