Fubara In A Fix As Pro-Wike Lawmakers Pooh-Pooh Invitation

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has faulted Governor Siminalayi Fubara for allegedly inviting lawmakers to a meeting via social media instead of using formal channels of communication.

The controversy arose after the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, extended an invitation to the lawmakers for a scheduled meeting at the Government House on Monday. The agenda reportedly includes discussions on the Assembly’s seating arrangements, unpaid allowances, and the presentation of the 2025 budget.

However, the 27 lawmakers loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike strongly opposed the approach. Hon. Isaiah Opuende, representing Akuku-Toru Constituency 2, criticized the method of invitation, stating that such matters should be handled through proper legislative procedures, not social media posts.

Opuende also referenced Fubara’s past remarks telling lawmakers to “stay in their lane,” insisting that the Assembly would now reciprocate.

“It is time for us to determine our own ‘dey.’ When the ‘dey your dey’ statement started, our principal (Wike) said our time would come. Now, our own ‘dey your dey’ has come,” Opuende declared.

“Dey your dey make we dey our dey. How can you send an invitation and post it on social media, expecting us to honor it? We are not kids. The governor should properly communicate with the Assembly. That’s all,” he added.

The lawmakers’ reaction further highlights the ongoing power struggle between Fubara and Wike’s loyalists, deepening the political tension in Rivers State.
