Ikeja Air Force Base To Remain In Darkness Until… – IKEDC Vows
By Gideon Ayeni

Ikeja Electric has refused to restore power to the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos, citing an outstanding electricity debt of ₦4.3 billion.
The military facility was disconnected last week due to unpaid bills, a move that reportedly led to tensions between the base and the Ikeja electricity distribution company.
According to the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Air Force personnel allegedly stormed Ikeja Electric’s headquarters, vandalized equipment, and assaulted staff and journalists in an attempt to force power restoration.
Reacting to the incident, ANED’s Executive Director for Research and Advocacy, Sunday Oduntan, condemned the attack, stressing that electricity supply would not resume until the debt is fully cleared.
“This should not happen in a civilian government. There are legal ways to resolve issues rather than resorting to force,” Oduntan stated.
Dr. Muda Yusuf, CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), also criticized the military’s actions, warning that such an approach could discourage investment and damage Nigeria’s reputation.
Kola Adesina, Chairman of Ikeja Electric, disclosed that the Air Force base has owed ₦4.3 billion for over seven years despite repeated efforts to resolve the matter. He emphasized that the debt affects the entire power supply chain, including payments to gas suppliers and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
While negotiations are ongoing, Ikeja Electric maintains its stance: power will not be restored unless the Air Force settles its outstanding bill.
