Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension has sparked intense reactions, with many warning that Akpabio now faces global scrutiny and a political reckoning.

The suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Nigerian Senate has continued to spark widespread reactions, with many questioning whether Senate President Godswill Akpabio has underestimated the gravity of his decision.

As Akpoti-Uduaghan escalates her case internationally, there is growing speculation about the long-term political consequences for Akpabio.

Several social media users believe Akpabio may have picked the wrong battle. Ọmọọba Adélẹyẹ ToluCHUKWU (@AnomalousPrince) commented that “Akpabio messed with the wrong woman and has climbed the tree beyond the leaves. The Senate is going to regret suspending Natasha instead of settling the matter amicably.” This sentiment reflects the growing perception that the suspension was a hasty and ill-advised move that could backfire.

OKOTE (@ABaba30036) recalled how Akpoti-Uduaghan previously fought former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello despite numerous obstacles, stating, “A woman that single-handedly fought Yahaya Bello till he destroyed the road leading to her town just to stop her, yet she never gave up. Akpabio will learn one or two things about this woman.”

While many sympathize with Akpoti-Uduaghan, some have adopted a more cynical view. Pibrahym26 (@slimsegzy85) remarked, “I laugh when citizens throw support behind politicians as if they are fighting for the betterment of the people. Your eyes will clear when Akpabio’s son marries Natasha’s daughter in a royal party hall.” This skepticism reflects a broader public distrust of politicians, suggesting that some see the dispute as mere political theater rather than a real fight for justice.

One of the most significant developments in the case is Akpoti-Uduaghan’s decision to take her grievances to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the United Nations. Streetz King (@dtch007) highlighted this move, suggesting that “the Inter-Parliamentary Union will take over the Nigerian Senate in 30 days if Akpabio does not resign and tender an unreserved apology to Senator Akpoti.”

Although this claim is exaggerated, it underscores the perception that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s appeal to international bodies could increase pressure on the Nigerian government. CIA (@Inno4Chi) also noted that “FIDA (Federation of Female Lawyers Worldwide) is also on the matter,” signaling growing legal scrutiny of the Senate’s actions.

Some believe this case could have broader implications for Akpabio’s political future. TeddyBaba (@OmoniyiAkintobi) argued that “Akpabio’s downfall is near. There is time for everything. His immaturity has contributed to this; he allowed his ego and anger to override his sense of reasoning. This is a global disgrace for those useless senators talking about the integrity of the Senate. He should step down.”

Similarly, FAB (@EngrFAB) warned, “Nigeria is not an island. Nigeria is a signatory to so many international laws and regulations, but her leaders abuse these agreements because Nigerians are not holding them accountable.”

The situation remains fluid, but what is clear is that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s case has gained significant traction beyond Nigeria. If international bodies scrutinize the Senate’s decision, it could lead to diplomatic embarrassment and potential political consequences for Akpabio.

For now, many are watching closely to see how this unfolds. Will Akpabio survive the storm, or has he set himself up for a major political reckoning?
