Troops escorting Governor Zulum’s convoy have repelled a Boko Haram attack in Borno, killing insurgents and rescuing abducted travelers.

Troops escorting the Borno State governor’s convoy have successfully repelled an attack by armed insurgents along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road.

During the operation, security forces rescued seven kidnapped passengers and neutralized several attackers.

According to intelligence sources, the convoy consisted of soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai, a police crack team, and government officials returning from a visit to Biu Local Government Area. The insurgents had targeted travelers in a Volkswagen vehicle, attempting to abduct them when security forces intervened.

Reports confirmed that the governor was not in the convoy at the time, as he had traveled separately by helicopter. However, his security team acted swiftly, engaging the assailants in a gun battle.

Following the attack, the troops recovered weapons and motorcycles belonging to the insurgents, further weakening their operational capabilities. Security agencies continue to monitor the situation to prevent further incidents in the area.

GWG.ng reports that the attack on the convoy of the governor has again brought to fore problems arising from the remnants of Boko Haram who government had in the past claimed to have technically defeated.
