Popular Entertainer And Politician Dumps APC, Embraces SDP
By Benjamin Abioye

Nigerian entertainer, businessman, and politician MC Tagwaye has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He announced this decision on his social media platforms, stating that it was made after extensive consultations.
Explaining his reasons, MC Tagwaye said he believes the APC has drifted away from its founding principles and is no longer dedicated to the well-being of Nigerians. He stated, “After months of intense consultation and introspection, I, Obinna Simon, AKA MC Tagwaye, have made the bold decision to resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).”
He criticized the APC for neglecting loyal members and maintaining a leadership structure that favors older politicians while making life harder for low-income earners. “The party’s glaring lack of reward system for loyal members, its gerontocratic leadership structure, and its policies that perpetuate hardship on low-income earners have collectively sounded the death knell on my membership,” he added.
MC Tagwaye also pointed out issues with the APC’s internal democracy, saying that a few influential figures control the party, leaving ordinary members without a voice. “The APC’s internal democracy has been egregiously compromised, with a few power brokers dictating the party’s direction and disregarding the voices and aspirations of the majority,” he said.
He praised the SDP as a party committed to youth empowerment, democracy, transparency, and accountability. According to him, the party’s vision aligns with his hopes for a better Nigeria. “In stark contrast, the SDP has emerged as a beacon of hope, with its unwavering commitment to the youth, internal democracy, transparency, and accountability. The party’s vision for a new Nigeria, where the welfare and progress of all citizens are paramount, resonates deeply with me.”
MC Tagwaye confirmed that he has officially submitted his resignation to his APC ward chairman, marking the end of his time with the party. Expressing his excitement about his new political journey, he called on Nigerians to join him in the SDP. “I urge all Nigerians who share my vision to join me on this journey. Together, we can create a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation.”
