First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) has dismissed fraud allegations leveled against it in a lawsuit filed by a customer, Dr. Agbai Eke, describing the claims as “entirely unfounded and false.”

In an official statement signed by Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications and posted on X, First bank clarified that its internal review revealed the issue stemmed from “unprofessional and unethical dealings” between the customer, Dr. Eke and a former employee of the bank.

According to the bank, the transactions in question were conducted through a personal arrangement between Dr. Eke and the ex-staff member, without the bank’s knowledge or involvement.

“As the matter is currently before the Court, we will refrain from further comments to allow the Court to dispassionately determine the issues before it,” the statement read.

The bank also confirmed that it had reported the case to law enforcement authorities for proper investigation. It noted that suspects linked to the matter had already provided useful statements to authorities.
