Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appointed Samuel Badekale and Haroun Adebakin, the best graduating students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at its 55th convocation, as Education Ambassadors of the state.q

The go⁶vernor also presented each of them with a cheque for N10 million in recognition of their outstanding academic achiev9ements.

Speaking at the event held at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday, Abiodun lauded the duo for attaining a perfect Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0, describing their feat as a source of pride for Ogun State and an inspiration to students across Nigeria.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to celebrating excellence in various fields, stating that recognizing individuals who bring honour to the state would serve as motivation for others to strive for greatness.

“I want to commend you for this remarkable achievement. You have not only brought honour to yourselves and your families but have also made Ogun State and the entire country proud. Excellence deserves recognition, and today, we are honouring you as Education Ambassadors of our state,” Abiodun stated.

As part of their new roles, the governor disclosed plans to integrate Badekale and Adebakin into educational outreach programs, where they would engage with students and share their academic journeys to inspire the younger generation.

“Young people can relate to you better than they can to me. You understand their struggles, their challenges, and their aspirations. That is why we want you to serve as role models. Through this ambassadorship, we will create opportunities for you to visit schools and interact with students to encourage them,” he added.

Beyond the appointment, the governor underscored the importance of education as a tool for eradicating poverty and fostering prosperity. He highlighted ongoing reforms under his administration, including the Revitalisation Agenda and a learner identification system, aimed at strengthening the state’s education sector.

Abiodun also commended the parents of the awardees for their sacrifices and the values they instilled in their children, emphasizing that their commitment had contributed significantly to their success.

Expressing their gratitude, Adebakin and Badekale hailed the governor’s gesture as a testament to his administration’s prioritization of education. They urged young Nigerians to remain dedicated to their studies, stressing that success and recognition could be attained through hard work and integrity.

“You don’t need to engage in fraud or any unwholesome practices to be successful. Today, we are being celebrated for our academic achievements, and we hope this encourages other students to stay focused and strive for excellence,” they said.
