Calm Returns To Plateau Community After Clash Between Muslims, Traditional Worshippers
By Marie-Therese Nanlong

Jos – An alleged disagreement between some Muslim youths and some traditional worshippers has snowballed into violence and burning of property in the Shimankar community, Shendam local government area of Plateau State.
Contrary to the report that a yet-to-be-ascertained number of people were killed in the skirmish which started on Sunday night, and continued into Monday morning, the Chairman of the Shendam local government area, Mr. Nicholas Nshe said “There was no death and the situation is calm.”
It was alleged that some people were injured and property burnt because some traditional worshippers carrying out their religious activities were passing through the community when some suspected Muslim youths questioned the act and a disagreement began, leading to violence, as residents scampered to safety.
The State Police Command and Operation Safe Haven didn’t react to the development as their spokespersons didn’t pick up their calls at the time of the report but Nshe reacted thus: “There is no cause for alarm, everywhere is calm now, very calm. I don’t want to give half information, I will soon speak with the press but I want to say that there is no death.”
