Man Kills Nigerian Sugar Mummy, Escapes With Her Phone

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson for allegedly killing his 39-year-old girlfriend under mysterious circumstances.

The suspect, identified as Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, was taken into custody for the alleged murder of Emem Monday Effanga. According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, Nelson also stole the victim’s mobile phone after the incident.

The police revealed that in February 2025, they received a report that Emem was found dead in her apartment under suspicious circumstances. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed visible injuries on her face and neck, suggesting she had been strangled and beaten.

The statement read: “Sometime in February 2025, the Command received a report that the deceased was found dead in her apartment under suspicious circumstances.”

It continued, “Upon arrival at the scene, operatives observed visible marks of violence on her face and neck, suggesting she had been strangled and beaten to death.”

After documenting the evidence, the police moved her body to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death. Her remains were later deposited in a mortuary for an autopsy.

Following an investigation, detectives identified Nelson as the last person seen with Emem. They discovered that he had visited her residence on the morning of February 6, 2025, the same day as his birthday.

“Following swift investigations, detectives traced the last person seen with the deceased to be Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, who had visited her residence on 6th February 2025, the morning of his birthday.”

The police later tracked him to a church in Uyo, where he tried to flee upon seeing them. However, he was quickly pursued and arrested.

During questioning, Nelson admitted that he had asked Emem for her phone to take pictures for his birthday celebration on social media. However, when she refused, an argument broke out, leading to a struggle.

“When questioned, the suspect confessed that he visited the victim that morning and requested to use her phone to take pictures for his birthday celebration to place on social media.”

According to his confession, Nelson overpowered the girlfriend, strangled her with his hands, and hit her head on the floor with his fists until she lost consciousness. He then took her phone and fled.

The police recovered an Itel Super Phone belonging to the deceased from him at the time of his arrest.

“A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and the cause of death has been officially documented by a pathologist. The suspect will be charged to court.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, assured the public that justice would be served. He also warned against domestic violence and urged citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.

“He charged the general public to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities to the police.”
