Governor Suspends Absentee Commissioners At Exco
By Benjamin Abioye

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended three commissioners for failing to attend the State Executive Council meeting on Monday without permission.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, announced this decision on Tuesday while briefing the press on the meeting’s outcome.
The suspended commissioners include Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development).
Okpor explained that the suspension would last for one month. He emphasized that the governor had warned against absenteeism and a careless attitude toward official duties.
He further stated that Nwifuru directed the immediate withdrawal of all privileges attached to the suspended commissioners’ offices for the duration of their suspension.
Additionally, the governor issued a strong warning to contractors handling government projects in the state. He urged them to speed up their work in line with contractual agreements and cautioned that the government would take legal action against any contractor who failed to comply.
Meanwhile, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has accused Governor Nwifuru of ignoring warnings about a possible attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen, which later led to tragic violence in Amegu Nkalaha, Ishielu Local Government Area.
The assailants invaded the community early Sunday morning, burning down many structures and leaving them in ruins.
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the National President of the youth council, stated that his group had alerted the governor four days before the February 2 attack. He claimed that despite the warning, no action was taken, resulting in multiple deaths and property destruction.
The council also expressed deep concern over the rising presence of Fulani herdsmen in the state. It warned that further violence could occur if the government failed to act swiftly.
