Video: Outrage As Tinubu’s Supporter Blames Atiku, Obi For Economic Crisis
By Benjamin Abioye

A Nigerian man and supporter of President Bola Tinubu has stirred controversy after claiming that the economic hardship in the country was caused by opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
In a viral video, the man, speaking in Yoruba, the Tinubu supporter stated, “The people of Nigeria, the rising prices are not caused by President Tinubu. Instead, ask Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi—they are the ones behind it.”
In the video circulating across Nigerian news platforms, the man’s remarks have triggered an avalanche of reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing disbelief, frustration, and mockery. Critics argue that his statement reflects a deeper problem of misinformation and political manipulation.
A user, @Miz_Fey, suggested that the man’s claim might be due to the effects of hunger, writing, “Studies have shown that hunger causes hallucinations and mental disorders.” Similarly, @DYM remarked that people like him would “suffer in vain”, predicting that “when Nigeria gets better, hunger won’t let them live long.”
Others mocked his physical appearance, hinting that poverty had taken a toll on him. @Prestigious_Gt commented, “See as sapa turn am to skeleton while still alive,” while @Henryoffical_ sarcastically added, “Supporting Tinubu online, drinking garri without sugar offline.” Another, @anasuachara, went as far as saying, “I was told there is an animal called IDIOT. I have never seen it until today.”
However, not all reactions were filled with mockery. Some saw it as a deliberate attempt to divert public attention. @eze_preach suggested, “This is a distraction to get people upset and emotional and to argue about trivial matters.” Meanwhile, @Crespo defended Tinubu, arguing that inflation is a “world economy thing and not just a Nigeria thing.”
The video highlights the ongoing political divide in Nigeria, where economic struggles are often framed through partisan lenses. While many see the man’s statement as absurd, others believe it represents the sentiments of a section of the electorate still loyal to the ruling party.
