The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocated to the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abuja.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, Wike stated that the PDP had failed to pay the annual ground rent on the national secretariat for 20 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. Despite multiple public notices in newspapers and electronic media urging property owners to clear outstanding bills, the party did not comply.

The revocation notice, signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, cited legal provisions under the Land Use Act as the basis for the decision. The letter stated, “I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to [the opposition party] National Secretariat and inform you that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.”

The letter further explained that “the revocation is in view of your continued contravention of the terms and conditions of grant of the Right of Occupancy by failing to pay the annual ground rents due on the property for twenty (20) years.”

It was also noted that the FCT Administration had repeatedly warned all landowners in Abuja to settle outstanding payments, with notices issued in various national newspapers since 2023. However, the party failed to comply, violating Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

Wike announced that the FCT Administration would immediately take possession of the PDP national secretariat land until all dues were settled.
