VeryDarkMan has stirred heated reactions online after sharing a video where he has praised Chinese women as hardworking while accusing Nigerian women of laziness.

Social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has stirred controversy after posting a video comparing Nigerian women to Chinese women working in a phone repair village.

In the video, which has since gone viral, he praised Chinese women for their hard work while accusing Nigerian women of avoiding vocational skills and turning to prostitution instead. His remarks have sparked heated debates, with many Nigerians reacting strongly to his statements.

The video shows VeryDarkMan touring the phone village, highlighting how Chinese women engage in technical repairs, a field he believes Nigerian women shy away from. He argued that Nigerian women prefer easier ways to make money rather than learning practical skills. This comparison did not sit well with many social media users, who flooded the comment section to express their views.

Many people defended Nigerian women, emphasizing their resilience and hard work. @emanuelpeters16 countered, saying, “Our mothers in Nigeria are hard workers, breadwinners, and role models. They work all day in markets, factories, offices, and farms. Single mothers work hard and still send their children to universities.” Similarly, @ChiomaDike96963 argued, “Do you know how hard Nigerian women work? Many are into business, working 24/7. Maybe you should go out more and see for yourself.”

Others felt that VeryDarkMan’s remarks were disrespectful. @Faithysia_blunt expressed her frustration, saying, “Every little opportunity to talk down on Nigerian women, forgetting y’all have mothers too.” @briaSabi also criticized the comparison, stating, “I’ve never seen a Chinese man come out to talk bad about their women. Every Nigerian woman I know is highly educated, owns a business, and works.”

However, some users agreed with his views, claiming that younger Nigerian women avoid hard work. @SamuelUche6169 stated, “80% of young Nigerian women are lazy and only interested in socializing. In America, even the most beautiful women work hard with good manners.” @kayseakay7 supported the argument, saying, “Enter any market—foodstuff, clothing, phones—young women hustling don’t even make up 20%. In Nigeria, 60% of young ladies are into hookups while 30% are just too lazy to work.”

A few people pointed out that economic conditions and job opportunities play a major role in people’s career choices. @Lasoftxx noted, “Come to Computer Village in Ikeja; you’ll see plenty of hardworking Nigerian women repairing phones and laptops.” Similarly, @im_Dongee816 argued, “Many Nigerian ladies want to work, but lack of job opportunities has pushed many into using men for financial support. A lot is wrong in this country.”

Despite the backlash, VeryDarkMan has not retracted his statement. The debate continues, with some defending his views as a wake-up call, while others see it as an unfair attack on Nigerian women. The controversy has once again highlighted ongoing conversations about work culture, gender roles, and economic struggles in Nigeria.
