Reps Rivers Fubara Suspension

The House of Representatives erupted in a heated exchange on Wednesday as lawmakers debated the emergency rule in Rivers State, drawing strong reactions from Nigerians.

A dramatic scene unfolded in the House of Representatives as lawmakers engaged in a shouting match over the emergency rule in Rivers State. Even before the plenary session officially began, tensions ran high, with opposing voices clashing over the controversial suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

The chaos in the Green Chamber has sparked widespread reactions from Nigerians, many of whom took to social media to express their frustration, disbelief, and amusement at the lawmakers’ behavior.

@PharmJimmy was unimpressed by the rowdy session, pointing out the unseriousness of some members: “Look at the way the other lawmakers were laughing. This madness will go around. It’s just a matter of time.” @DabusKabash had a similar reaction, asking, “Who are those ones shining their teeth and laughing like all is well?”

Some users believe women in the House handled the situation better. @AustinINstate remarked, “Seems women can do better in Nigeria. They appear to be more transparent in leadership than these monsters in Babariga.” @ly_daddi also observed, “The two men playing while the women argue heatedly. Omoh.”

The influence of money and political loyalty was a recurring theme in the reactions. @African_unifier alleged corruption, saying, “One woman has taken bribe while the other one hasn’t.” @IViktarIdam was cynical about the lawmakers’ sudden outrage, stating, “Once the money is shared, their agitation will become history and you will hear them singing on ‘his mandate they shall stand’.”

For some, the entire session was nothing more than political theater. @sparenoevil dismissed the lawmakers as a “bunch of cowards,” while @AhiabaAkoji called it “ordinary drama.” @MilanAbuja was even more critical, saying, “A bunch of useless people in a room.”

Others questioned why the Reps were even debating the emergency rule when reports suggested they had already given their approval. @chima26946 asked, “Are these not the same people that said Tinubu consulted them before taking the decision on emergency rule and they gave their consent? What are they arguing about again?”

Many expressed concerns about the precedent being set by Tinubu’s actions. @ladkings warned, “It’s left for them if they allow Tinubu to illegally suspend elected personnel… One day, he would also proclaim and suspend the National Assembly.” @NGbamwuan added, “Tinubu used to boast that he is a Democrat, but his actions are more like a Mafian dictator who is bent on destroying every democratic voice.”

For @opara_ernest, the hypocrisy of the government was clear: “It’s always the minorities that bear the brunt of misguided leadership in Nigeria. Boko Haram, Bandits, OPC, UGM, etc. did not attract a ‘state of emergency’ in the states where they operated.”

Amid all the anger and skepticism, some simply saw the outcome as inevitable. @idowu_najim stated, “Last last, it will be approved.” @Treashkaka likened the House to a school setting, joking, “See our class for secondary school o… Did I make noise? Why did you write my name among the noisemakers?”

As Nigerians continue to react, the House of Representatives remains divided, and the future of Rivers State hangs in the balance.
