Atiku, El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Others Form Coalition Against Tinubu
By Benjamin Abioye

Atiku Abubakar, El-Rufai, Babachir Lawal, and Peter Obi have formed a coalition to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, along with several influential figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has formed a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
At a press conference held on Thursday, key opposition figures gathered to announce the alliance. Although Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was absent, his representative, Yunusa Tanko, was present to affirm his support for the movement.
Other notable attendees included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai; National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties, Peter Ahmeh; and the Convener of the Alternative, Segun Showunmi, among others.
Some key political figures could not attend but sent their apologies, including former Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, and the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu. Despite their absence, their backing for the coalition was acknowledged.
The coalition signals a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition forces unite to challenge the current administration.
