Anyanwu PDP National Secretary

Senator Samuel Anyanwu has officially resumed office as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his Supreme Court victory, putting an end to a prolonged leadership tussle.

Anyanwu arrived at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, on Friday morning, where he expressed gratitude to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his unwavering support throughout the legal battle.

His reinstatement comes after a fierce contest for the position, which was also claimed by Sunday Udeh-Okoye, a former National Youth Leader of the party. The dispute began after Anyanwu stepped down from the role to contest the 2023 Imo State governorship election, which he lost. Upon his return, he sought to reclaim his seat, but Udeh-Okoye emerged as a rival candidate, leading to a prolonged legal battle.

In December 2024, the Court of Appeal in Enugu upheld a Federal High Court ruling that removed Anyanwu and affirmed Udeh-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary. However, the Supreme Court overturned the decision, restoring Anyanwu to the position.

Speaking after resuming office, Anyanwu called for unity within the party and urged PDP leaders to set aside their differences to rebuild ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I want to thank my leaders across the country—PDP faithful and those who stood by the truth. I also appreciate those who put me in this situation; it has only made me stronger,” he said.

He extended special gratitude to Wike, describing him as a leader who believed in him and provided encouragement.

“I want to thank in a very big special way, my friend and my leader, the honourable minister for FCT who also believed and supported me and gave me encouragement”

He also acknowledged the support of some PDP governors who stood by him during the legal battle.

Now firmly back in office, Anyanwu’s next challenge will be navigating the political landscape within the PDP, especially with party members and governors who had opposed his return. His reinstatement is expected to reshape internal dynamics within the party as it gears up for future political battles.
