Telecommunications giant 9mobile has dismissed widespread rumors claiming that it has shut down operations in Nigeria, labeling such reports as false and misleading.

The telco’s statement comes amid growing concerns from subscribers over declining service quality and difficulties in porting to other networks.

In a statement released on Friday, 9mobile acknowledged the recent challenges with Mobile Number Portability (MNP) but firmly denied any deliberate restrictions on users seeking to switch providers.

“9mobile categorically refutes the false and misleading rumors suggesting an alleged shutdown of our operations in Nigeria. These claims are entirely baseless and aimed at causing unnecessary panic among our valued subscribers,” the company stated.

Service Disruptions Linked to Temporary Technical Issues

Addressing concerns over network disruptions, 9mobile attributed the issues to temporary technical challenges rather than a systemic failure. The company assured customers that most of these problems had been resolved, though some minor delays might persist due to ongoing system optimizations.

“These issues have now been largely resolved. Some minor delays may still occur due to ongoing system optimizations, but we are actively working to ensure a smoother experience for all users,” the telco stated.

Commitment to Network Upgrades and Expansion

9mobile reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery, stating that ongoing network modernization efforts were responsible for some of the recent disruptions. It reassured customers that these investments would soon lead to significant service enhancements.

“We sincerely appreciate the patience and loyalty of our subscribers during this transition. While challenges exist, we are making significant progress and are confident that brighter days are ahead. We remain dedicated to providing exceptional service and keeping you connected to limitless opportunities,” the company affirmed.

The telco emphasized its resilience as a proudly Nigerian brand and pledged to continue expanding its infrastructure to meet the growing demands of its users.
