BREAKING: Twelve Inmates Escape From Kogi Prison
By Benjamin Abioye

Twelve inmates escaped from a correctional facility in Kogi State in the early hours of Monday.
The state government has confirmed the jailbreak and assured citizens that measures are being taken to prevent future occurrences.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication described the incident as “unfortunate” and praised the swift response of security agencies. He emphasized that the government is committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the escape.
Authorities are questioning how the prisoners managed to flee through the tower without causing structural damage. “This raises serious concerns and calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system,” the commissioner stated.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to work closely with federal correctional authorities and other security agencies to prevent similar security breaches in the future. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies with logistics and resources to strengthen security operations.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue. “There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” the commissioner added.
